Group Lessons & Recitals

Group lessons and Recitals are an important part of the music lesson experience.

*We will get back on track with group lessons and having public recitals once the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

Normally, two recitals are held each academic calendar year for school age students, a Winter Recital and a Spring Recital (held in December during the holiday season, and early June before school is dismissed for summer (there is a small fee per family to participate in public recital).

If there is a health emergency in lieu of a public recital, we will plan a special Zoom-Holiday Concert early in December to put everyone in the Holiday Spirit.

Student participation is voluntary, and not required.

We follow health recommendations, for public health restrictions.
Group Lessons will resume twice a year, several weeks before recitals are scheduled.  Students will perform for each other, also play musical games to reinforce music theory skills.  Group Lessons are also voluntary, and count as makeup lessons for any private lesson missed.

MusicSchool Policies

MAKE UP LESSONS (Rescheduling missed lessons)

If you need to cancel a lesson for outside activities, 24 hours (or more) notice is required for scheduling a makeup lesson.

In the event of illness or last minute family emergency,  makeup lessons can be arranged.  Individual circumstances and frequency of missed lessons will be taken into consideration for rescheduling a missed lesson.

TO CANCEL or RESCHEDULE A LESSON:
In the event of illness, or other last minute situation –
PLEASE TEXT your teacher. If you know in advance about an upcoming conflict and would like to reschedule, please SEND A TEXT MESSAGE  to inform the teacher.

Teacher Absence:
In the event the teacher must cancel,  lessons will be credited/rescheduled (no tuition refunds).

ONLINE LESSONS and In-Person Lessons

We will continue with online lessons even after COVID-19 restrictions are lifted for convenience and flexibility.  Once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, we will continue with Online lessons, integrating them with In-person lessons.

We use SKYPE, a free application; or ZOOMstudents must schedule lessons through their personal Zoom account

We prefer SKYPE, which in our experience has better quality sound and is easier to access once set-up.  We can offer assistance in helping you set up your SKYPE account if needed.

There is a 10-minute window for lesson start time from the time scheduled to allow for any connectivity issues during a previous lesson.

If you have compatibility issues with SKYPE, then ZOOM can be used.  Again, students schedule Zoom lessons through their personal accounts.

Technology needed for online lessons

·        Good WiFi connectivity

·        A up-to-date laptop or cell phone with good connectivity

·        SKYPE application (free) – or a Zoom personal account

ONLINE LESSONS GUIDELINES – IMPORTANT!!!

Here are a few guidelines to ensure the greatest value of online lesson:

  • Please keep the following permanently at the piano or music stand for lessons.
PENCIL AND ERASER – COLORED HIGHLIGHTER – POST IT NOTES (to mark pages for weekly practice)

MOTIVATIONAL-REWARD or STAR STICKERS (recommended for younger students ages 7-10  – they love to put them on song pages they have successfully completed)

  • Position the camera of your device so that the student can easily see the teacher to the front or side of the piano (NOT to the student’s back), and full frontal view for guitar/ukulele, and so the teacher can see the instrument and student’s hands.

Placing the camera to the front of the student is the optimal position for seeing student’s face and hands on the keyboard, and for the student to see the teacher.

  • PLEASE BE AWARE OF BACKGROUND NOISE – preferably the student should be in a silent area, free of background noise, including family members talking, kitchen or other normal household sounds.  These make hearing difficult, the teacher must speak over it and cannot clearly hear the student’s performance during the lesson, and the noise impairs student’s ability to hear instructions during the lesson.
  • PARENTAL PARTICIPATION is REQUIRED for first time YOUNG BEGINNERS (age 7-8) during the lesson to help with finding and marking pages and to keep their child focused.  Each child is different, and parental participation can discontinue based on child’s needs and ability to do the lesson without a parent’s help.  This can be a fun, satisfying quality time for both child and parent!

Holidays & School Closings

There are NO lessons on national holidays that fall on weekdays including:  Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Years Day, and other religious holidays.  Typically, there are no lessons scheduled on October 31 for Trick or Treat. *DenLee Music School typically closes (no lessons) over Winter and Spring Breaks; one week in July, and two weeks the end of August.

*These dates are subject to change.  Makeup lessons will be scheduled to fulfill 46 week or 36 week commitment for student and/or teacher vacations.

Inclement Weather (in person lessons only):

In-person lessons are canceled for inclement weather when road warnings or general closings are issued.  Online lessons will be scheduled instead.

STOPPING OR SUSPENDING LESSONS

Four-week (one month) notice is required if you wish to stop lessons and discontinue payments. Tuition fees WILL NOT BE  credited if lessons are stopped during a payment cycle.

If you are on the 12 month 46-week plan and discontinue lessons before the year is up, you will be charged the remainder of the full tuition for lessons taken to the point you leave.

If you are on the 9 month plan, we can suspend lesson payments, and reinstate when you are ready to start back up.

Students are responsible for any and all lessons, whether they attend lessons or not, and if they remain on the schedule and do not give notification of missed lessons or of stopping lessons.   Prepaid tuition is not refundable.

Lesson Studio Protocol (for In-Person lessons)

Students are asked to wait until their scheduled lesson time before entering the building.  Being too early can be distracting to students with a lesson in progress.

Piano and vocal students can enter the building (ring the bell front door) about 1 minute before their scheduled lesson;  ring the door bell before coming inside, and go downstairs to the lesson studio, have a seat and wait quietly as the lesson in progress is ending.

Guitar Lessons – enter at the driveway entrance (at bottom of drive where recording studio entrance is located) no more than one minute before SCHEDULED LESSON TIME.   (Please wait until lesson time if you arrive early before coming inside).

SHOES OFF  — when entering the building shoes can be removed.  Please remove wet shoes once inside and before going entering the lesson studio.  You may wish to bring footies, slippers or socks – no bare feet please.

PLEASE CLOSE THE DOOR — Please make sure the DOOR IS CLOSED all the way once you enter the building for energy efficiency  and conservation (both heat and air conditioning).  Please refrain from opening the door until physically leaving the building.  Push or pull firmly  no slamming, please.

Summer Lesson Schedules

Students are encouraged to continue lessons throughout the summer months which the 46 week plan offers, tuition is significantly discounted for students who take lessons year round.

There is flexibility to schedule around vacation times and summer camps. Weekly lesson times can also be changed to a different time than when scheduled during the school year for school age students.  Students starting in summer can sign up for 6  week lessons, and then switch to the 46 plan in September.
